Shirodake Chashaku (Takayama Ikoma Nara, Japan)
This bamboo spoon differs from the usually used Chashaku (bamboo spoon) by the wavy lines in its upper half. Bamboo wood is usually even and round, but at some point the trunk is lined with wavy lines. This chashaku is made of wood from exactly this spot, which makes it particularly elegant.
Original Japanese handmade.
Supplied in an elegant gift box.
This spoon comes from the production of
Nakata Kizo.
Nakata Kizo, whisk maker and bamboo artisan
Nakata Kizo was born in 1940 in Takayama, which belongs to the city of Ikoma in Nara Prefecture. Although he was the son of a rice farmer, at the age of 14 he was sent to a public school as a trainee to learn the craft of whisk making. After six years of training, he learned further techniques before becoming self-employed at the age of 25. In 1975 he founded the Nakata-Kizo-Cooperation. Today his company produces about half of all Japanese bamboo whisks.
