Maiko Houjicha "Asairi"
The "lightly roasted Houjicha" quickly became one of the most popular teas of MaikoTea. After harvesting at the beginning of May, Karigane tea (stems and leaves) is slowly roasted in a porcelain crucible over charcoal at a low temperature.
In the cup the Houjicha has a light brown to reddish appearance and a very mild taste. The roasted aromas with a slightly caramel-like taste dominate this tea in contrast to the vegetative note of the classic green tea varieties.
The roasting process also reduces the caffeine content in the tea. Asairi Hojicha is therefore preferred for children and elderly people. A perfect tea for dinner or before bedtime.
