Thanks to our long-standing partnership with the Nakanishi tea family, we were able to reserve a few 30g tins for you. You are not just holding a tea in your hands, but a living tea culture - perfect for profound moments of pleasure, mindful tea ceremonies at home or as a study object for discerning palates.
True craftsmanship from Uji
The Takeno Jôô Uji Matcha comes from the famous tea garden of the Nakanishi family in Uji - the region that is considered the place of origin for high-quality drinking-grade matcha. The family has been practising controlled organic cultivation there since 1980, completely without chemical additives - instead with deep respect for the plant and the earth. The 1.25-hectare plantation is shaded every spring with elaborate black nets. This allows the leaves to develop maximum chlorophyll and umami - with minimal bitterness.
Every single leaf is picked by hand, carefully processed into tencha and then ground into the finest powder in a traditional stone mill. Without mechanical help. Without any compromises

Its namesake, the legendary tea master Takeno Jôô (1502-1555), was a pioneer of modern tea aesthetics. On the tin you will find the saying of his teacher Murata Jukô: "It is good to tie a noble steed to a straw hut." A simple vessel - with a tea of incomparable depth.
Taste & color
In the bowl, the Takeno Jôô shines in a rich, vibrant green - almost fluorescent. The first sip surprises with a fine fruity aroma, dense and clear - without any bitterness. What remains is a soft, creamy finish with an almost honey-like sweetness on the palate.
