The Kagoshima Sencha Premium comes from Chiran, a renowned cultivation area with volcanic soil. The water for irrigation is drawn from a depth of 144 meters and first flows through several layers of volcanic rock - which not only sounds remarkable, but also provides the tea with an exceptional mineral base. Combined with mild day-night temperature fluctuations, the result is a plant that radiates both strength and gentleness from within.
A ritual of the sun
In the last few days before the harvest, the tea fields are traditionally covered with protective cloths. This "shielding" reduces sunlight, promotes the formation of chlorophyll - recognizable by the deep dark leaf green - and intensifies the natural umami content of the tea leaves.
